One spark, then none was created by Pete-RT1

Popped round to help Bernie set his points/timing on his AT1-E after he had replaced crank seal, brushes and points.
Set the gap, set the timing by eye, rechecked gap, then with the plug out we checked for spark.
Pressed the magic go button, one spark then nothing.....hmmm, "try it again", pressed the magic go button, one spark then nothing.
I manually open the points and get a spark every time.
Try kicking it over, one spark then nothing.
Manually opening the points I could feel they felt "dampened" and weren't returning to close very quickly so we compared them to the original points which snapped shut.
Swapped the originals back in and all good.
Turns out the replacements are tight on the pivot meaning they haven't closed before the cam is lifting them again for the next spark, hence why we were only getting the initial spark.
I've now sorted the new points with some bearing oil and they're back in the packet ready for future use.
Was a new problem I hadn't seen before, so thought it might be a good one to share.

What make are they, Pete - Few?

I guess could be caused by sitting on a shelf for 50 odd years and any lubrication drying out.

Alan, they are made by Futaba.
Yes, likely new old stock and if there was any lubrication it may have dissipated over time.
I've seen Allen Millyard using that bearing oil on his points, so if it's good enough for him it's good enough for Bernie

Thanks Pete.

FEW is, I think, a trading/product name of Futaba.

Things that were sent to 'try' us. There's no end to them.
