CT1(ish?) reliability restoration question was created by nategar
Hey y'all! I got this bike many years ago and am just now getting it dialed in. It's been a wild time trying to sort out all of the modifications and I'd love to ask the community which ones I should keep, and which I should reverse. The bike has a CT1 engine mounted in what I think is an AT1 frame. The cylinder was bored out and had a Tarabusi 70mm piston installed. It required a cylinder jug spacer which was a constant source of leaks and other issues. I had the jug re-sleeved back to stock for simplicity. It has a finned carb spacer and a Mikuni VM30 currently. The only issue is it leaves next to no room for an air cleaner and I'm not sure where to start with jetting. It was missing the main jet entirely so I'll need to do something. I debated buying a stock carburetor again but I'm starting to regret reversing all of the performance modifications. That said, I don't know enough to know if they're truly performance enhancing or just a kitchen sink of spare parts. I'm part way through this and have sorted what's left of the electrical, replaced clutch plates, rebuilt the forks, brakes, and have a new tire. I'm pretty invested at this point and am eager to have a little dual sport for around town and on the trails.I'd love to do some show and tell and get some sage advice if I could be so bold to ask!

Greetings from Tennessee.
This image is hidden for guests.
The frame number is stamped by the triple tree also
Is your 175 cylinder a piston port or reed valve. You
Can upload pictures ie Imgur, google photos etc

Thanks Ht1kid! Sorry, formatting didn't seem to translate and my photos/video won't upload but I'll try again here.

Also it's an AT1 frame, the gas tank had me tripped up I think in the early days.

That's your own Google drive account. Open a free imgur account, and post the BB link.
BTW I just checked my imgur account, and apparently they recently redesigned it, and it sucks now. However, there was a link to use the old design, which I did, and now it works better. Not sure what will happen to new users.

We’re running but definitely need some tuning. Any idea what causes that wobble after throttle closes?

She's a beauty & not many piston port AT1MX left alive.
Does sound super lean though but also how does compression feel on the kick start, bouncy or soft.
If it's low on comp & the idle is screwed way up to sort of get an idle it'll hang there before settling to what you've pre-set to.
But Does sound very lean on the needle & probably pilot circuit.
I guess you have the choke 'off' not open & does the choke richen it up if you open it.
Crank seal are a possibility too. AT2MX tank.
Check the main jet too if it's the side sucking type & remove it to check as get stuff behind it then sucked up against it.
Needle jet gets its fuel from the main jet.

Thank you so much RT325, that's incredibly helpful! So here are some updates:
I just installed a resleeved cylinder, new rings, and nos piston. New wrist pin bearing, new head gasket, new crank seal.
Compression feels what I'd expect. Way more positive w/ the refreshed top end, not super bouncy or soft, just feels pretty good. I've never had a bike this small so it's way easier to kick over than my old XS650, and even Triumph T100C, but it feels positive.
Idle is screwed pretty far up I suppose because when I push the choke lever down (open?) it revs way up.
Mixture screw doesn't do anything particularly.
Main jet was missing when I first got into it but I installed a 150 C-Type just because it was a leftover from my 650. I felt something in there would likely be better than wide open but have been wrong before.
Pilot jet is an FJ60 and looks clear.
I moved the clip on the needle down to its lowest groove to richen it up, it was in the middle before.
I've left it apart so I can look up the jets it should have and get a kit to dial it in but everything seems clear, not blocked, but likely just super out of whack.
