Help with ‘69 dt1 value was created by Roarshqck

Looking for some buying advice. Hoping someone can tell me what a good price would be for this bike:

edit to add: starts and runs. He says it’s well maintained. Drained of gas currently.

Hi all. I’m hoping to be a vintage Yamaha owner in the not distant future. Hoping I could get some help in assessing the value on a 1969 dt1. Owner says it starts and runs and that it has been ‘well maintained’.

Please don't keep making new topics with that same question!  It gets very confusing!  I combined both into one.

The answer is "what someone is willing to pay for it"

Me? I would be delighted at 1500 or less, but would pass over at 2500 or more.

Above is very simplistic guide, as there are many condition variables.

Thank you a ton Gr8uncleal! I haven’t made any enduro friends yet so I’m in my own head about figuring things out. Having a few very rough numbers thrown around by someone who’s seen a few is so helpful. My gut was telling me if I could get it for 2k (he wants 2.5), it would be an ok price. 3.6 Roentgen. Also, the bike is almost as old as I am and I know there’s a little hidden damage to me.

Do you happen to know where the vin is on the frame? I thought it should be on the neck just forward of the tank and in the third picture it looks like a partial silvery something is there. There’s also some white print, just below the neck and to the right, that I can’t read. I just noticed that.

Thanks again man.

My apologies. I’ll refrain from doing that in the future.

edit: this was for MarkT. I didn’t quote right I think. I’m still figuring things out. Clearly…

No problem.

Each forum has its own quirks. On this one, it has got a tad too successful and it is butting up against memory storage, or whatever the correct IT terminology is!

Anyway, the result is that the "Quote" and photo upload function no longer work. If I want to quote, I copy and paste the relevant text into my reply (as I have here) and upload photos via Imgur - other third party hosting sites will also work.

Regarding the VIN, it should be stamped into the front left or right headstock. Not that this is likely an issue on this bike, but over generous powder coating/respray can sometimes obscure it!

The frames for some markets (eg US and Canada) had a plate on the headstock showing date of manufacture and maybe other relevant info.

We all have different theories on value.

Since tank is sitting empty I would pull the cap and inspect. Light rust ok, but heavy and pin holes are a concern. Pull the dipstick and see if the oil is well maintained, could mean regular maintenance. If street use is a concern, I would look up the price on turn signals AND a tail-light. You can plan on adding that to your total. That will also give it a better resale, IMO.

Is it numbers matching? A DT125 I had about 50 years ago, I sold with a different engine and w/a Harley Davidson rear wheel. Yes, it fit and in this case was way better than stock as I remember.
74 DT 360 ... resto in progress.

Does seller have an asking price?  Without one, it can be difficult.
