Replied by landyr67g on topic oil pump banjo fitting - doesn't have one

Update: I just discovered someone's serious mistake. Basically, the CT1B I bought two yrs ago has the wrong oil pump in it. Previous owner said he light siezed the engine, then left it in his barn for 15 yrs. Everything looked correct when I got it, but fuel and oil tanks were empty..was always curious about the oil tank....
I'm now into the tail end of a complete case splitting overhaul, with help from a lot of you guys and videos. I've torn down cleaned/rebuilt the pump a few times... and its now fairly clear in my brain, even after a few fall "a-parts" during handling. With the side cover still off the bike, I did a trial fit of the rebuilt pump and found the side cover worm gear would not engage it...and eventually realized the gear wheel inside the pump is wrong size! It has 62 teeth, while original for the CT is 55 teeth on a larger wheel OD. Thankfully I have a rusty parts pump (yellow paint dab) from a 1972 CT2 with the 55 gear. Is it OK to simply swap over the gear....and probably also now the "throttle cable wheel" (will confirm markings). Only other differences I can see are are the output banjo (my mystery pump has a pressed in elbow) and there is a different input oil hole location inside the pump body...why? Guess I could use my parts body, but it needs its own clean up, and would need to remove and transfer my new seals. Also its "distributor shaft" has some serious rust on the seal end and I can't yet remove it with out fear I'll gall the aluminum. Been trying to sand off the rust but may need a torch to help it get out.

Comments or ideas are appreciated!
