It kinda sucks that brochures and advertising pictures are often missing parts and details and are sometimes just "wrong" because somebody in marketing staged or even modified the photos.

Still done today, for example, many Ford brochure and advertising pictures have no antennas showing...  completely airbrushed out for a smoother, sleeker look.

In the pictures of people riding enduros, they're mainly off-road, so it's kind of legitimate to think they took the mirrors off. For the "beauty shot" of the XS650 they show it without mirrors, but they show people riding on road with two mirrors. I kind of airbrushed the antenna off my own Ram pickup by putting a stubby antenna on

I have two original mirrors for my CT1, but the glass needs replacement. I decided to get aftermarket mirrors because the original mirrors are a PITA to put on and take off. The mirrors I have on it now have a clamp that stays on the handlebars, and you can remove the mirrors from the mounts very quickly for riding off road. The original clamps have to be bent open and bent closed, and they also damage the handlebars.

One of the most blatant Vintage Yamaha uses of "creative license" are the DT1-S owner's manual photos.  They did glue a note inside the front cover at least though.

It would be nice if we could rely completely on the Yamaha marketing photos and/or parts diagrams for evidence of "originality"...  just not possible though.

That's amazing, you can see the bracket ears on the front of the fender, and on the fork tubes, but they put the fender up high. What a bizarre thing to do!

No visible support for the front mudguard (sorry, fender!) that I can see - trick photography?

Certainly generic photos were used in the owner's manuals, particularly where they can be used to illustrate a function on various models. For example, in the RT2 owners manual, a photo of a clutch perch without the decompression lever is used when illustrating how to adjust the cable at the handlebars. However, a photo of a clutch perch with the decompression lever is used when illustrating how to operate the decompression valve.
