DT1-C Mirrors? was created by Syd

Quick question - Did the the 1970 Yamaha DT1-C have one or two mirrors (Left & right) fitted when new?

CMSNL parts list suggests the left one as standard, with the right one as an optional extra. Personally, I always go for one each side.

Nevada is a state that required two mirrors on a motorcycle by law.  Bikes sold here came with two. In states like California where only one mirror was required, they came with one as far as I can remember.  (Federal law only required one mirror so I suspect most states followed that lead.)

So the answer is somewhat based on where the bike was sold originally?

I'd forgotten about your state to state laws, Mark!

Presumably the laws only relate to bikes sold/registered in a particular state - ie you wouldn't have to fit an extra mirror if you were just passing through Nevada?

GR8AL, helmet laws are the same. If you pass through a state that requires them, you shall wear it or risk a ticket. I’ll believe it’s the same with mirrors.

The CT-1C's in California came with one left mirror, and you could add another one. I have two aftermarket mirrors on mine, and I always want two mirrors when I'm riding on the road.

Gr8uncleal,

Most law enforcement will extend courtesy to out of state vehicles for minor equipment differences.  They don't have to though.  As was said, if you don't have a helmet in a state that requires helmets, it's pretty likely you'll get a ticket.  If you don't have two mirrors?  More likely a warning if the officer even notices.

Traffic laws are probably the bigger trap.  For example, California doesn't have laws against motorcycles "lane splitting" when riding in traffic.  Nevada prohibits lane splitting by law.  Lane split here and you're likely to get a ticket no matter which state you're licensed and registered in.

Yes, traffic rules are like the boundaries in your way. Whatever you go, whatever the place is, you must follow the rules.

I have an original brochure book for the 1971 Enduros and MX models, and they actually don't show any mirrors in the pictures, though they do show the turn signals. I imagine they just shipped them to the dealers, and the dealers put on mirrors as required in their state or nation.
