Longshot: Looking for CT1-029985 was created by JayB

After seeing all the nice CT1 pictures on this forum, I thought that I wanted one again. For some time, I have kept my eyes out for any coming up for sale. Then I thought, why not try to find the one I had? I regretfully sold the bike in about 1996 to someone in Maryland. I did a title search in my state of Maryland, and it turned up my title application in 1979, the previous owner’s purchase paperwork in 1973 and nothing more recent. When I last had it, the frame and engine had the matching numbers CT1-029985. Here is the only picture I have of the machine:

Does anyone have this motorcycle? Any ideas how to find it?

If you find the needle in the hay stack play the lottery. We all have tribute bikes that mimic the original back in the day that we had, good luck. Hey I've been looking for a green 1970 CT1 near Reno also.

I thought I found my 74 Honda CB750 I owned back then, it also had a black cylinder and a red head, turns out it wasn’t. I must have painted the engine in the frame, you can’t pull head off in the frame, unless you cut it.

Thanks Mark

I ran your VIN in the CycleVIN (CarFax for bikes) and NICB databases online.

CycleVIN is the only one I know that doesn't care if VIN is less than 17 digits... if they can find DMV records they will sell you a report. No records, they tell you they can't find it.

Try the number without dash, with a space instead of dash, without leading zero after dash... Most DMV's don't use dashes or spaces in the VIN anymore and I've seen all kinds of variations and minor mistakes.

Unfortunately no hits...

Dealers have access to a much better database so that could be an option... law enforcement probably has the best database but in many states it's now illegal for them to use the system except for official business. Doesn't mean it never happens though... Can never hurt to ask nice...

Many years ago in California you could actually take a plate number or VIN number down to the DMV and for like $5 they would give you the registered owner's name and address. Those days are long gone.

Thanks for the replies.

After I posted this I thought of the possible outcomes. The lottery analogy is probably the best! Could be in rusting in a shed, shipped to the UK, dismantled and sold on ebay, sent to the dump, or best case maybe it is someone else's dream! And that wouldn't be so bad.

If I am lucky enough to find it, I could get a duplicate title from Maryland.

I just looked at both of my 70's... I don't have it.

But you never know... someone might see this and does! It's happened here before!

My 70 ct1 the original owner had etched his name and phone # inside the flywheel cover. Called the # and no longer in use.

Long story, but could prove inspirational for you.
