There's an owner's manual in the Tech Library here if I remember correctly. There was also a discussion here a few years ago where some of the true experts went over the features.... should be able to find it with a forum search.

I have a DT1 S . Gears (have not had mine open to see what differences - possibly finer or coarser teeth ) and ratios appear to be the main difference (ratios are I think the same as later DT1 's. ) . From what I have seen with the bikes delivered in Aust. possibly some had a small tacho and others did not. A 21" front wheel was a "GYT" option as well as some other engine tuning items. Fewer "S" bikes produced than any other early DT1. That probably sums up the main differences.

Also I think the "S" tins were gold with a black pinstripe?

Could be right on the colour as that is what my 2 are with a black oil tank and silver head light ears...… Bit hard to find pics. of an original DT1 S although mine is still in original paint and colours.(one of mine is missing head ,carby , cylinder, exhaust etc. )

I have a US market parts book for a DT1 S .
It shows the Fuel tank and Oil tank as the same part numbers as DT1 B .
That's Candy Orange ( Gold ) tinware , but also a Pearl White option too .
That may not apply to KJB's Australian bike .

I also have a 69 DT1S. I would love to know the difference between the B and S models, other than lesser production (1500 units) S model. I seen discussion, including this thread that suggests it’s a close ration transmission, but parts catalogs show those parts are identical as well and most other parts. Can someone with experience describe the difference?

As far as I remember the DT1-S has what Yamaha called a WIDE ratio transmission compared to the DT1-B... As was mentioned gears are the same as standard DT1-C models.
Forks were different too... at least internally. That's all I can think of.

To add to what Mark has already correctly stated . Looking at my DT1 S parts supplement ,
they also came with a 21 " front wheel . The forks used different tubes and sliders , as well
as different internals .
