Bent axle on AT1C was created by littlemilo

Dumb question-will a bent axle cause a wobble? I have been chasing a wobble for a few years on this bike, finally checked the axle and its got about a sixteenth inch or more bend in it. Could that be part of it? The wobble gets bad over 40mph, I've tried different wheels, balancing helped a bit, but I'm hoping this axle issue may be my Homer Simpson moment. DOH!

Okay two questions? Front axle? Or rear axle? I have both - if I'm not mistaken from a green 1970 CT1. I might be missing a lock washer or a spacer but that's not something that you would need. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Hey asco, thanks for the reply, rear axle is bent. Haven't checked the front, probably should. I tried straightening it a little and it seems better. Also did more truing and balancing, and its rolling much smoother. I'm guessing this axle has been the main issue all along.

I will take a look tomorrow. If I have everything for the rear axle, spacers, nut, washer. I will sell it to you for $8.00 + $8.00 dollars shipping if it will fit in a small usps priority mail box. I will also check to make sure that it's true.

Just curious. Am I correct in assuming the axles do not turn? That the bearings are stationary on both the hub and the axle, and the wheel rolls on the bearings, then? Wondering how an axle bent just that little causes a wobble, then, since it isn't turning.
I'd be more inclined to see if the bearings were seated properly. If one is a bit askew, wobbling, or binding, might result, might it not?
Someone set me straight and stop my wobbling, please.

Your thoughts are spinning straight and true from where I'm sitting... no wobble detected at all. :Buds

Thanks! Now I have to confess, though, that I speak from experience with the bearings binding a bit when not seated square, but for me it was that the axle would not flow through both sides. Didn't get far enough to get to the wobble part of it.
