Stator plate screws frozen on 71 DT-1E was created by BajaBronco

Hey All, Finally have time to reconnect lights to my 71. A previous owner removed all but the ignition coil and snipped wires. In order to get at them, I think I need to remove the stator plate and wire up lighting 1 and 2 coils etc. Know what I need to do and have soaked the 3 stator plate screws but they are done for. Wont budge. What do you suggest? Any help appreciated. I guess I can drill them out but still need to figure out how to extract the old ones..

If you have a 1/2" air impact gun, and a solid phillips bit that engages all phlanges of the phillips screw, that's the way to go. I set the bit in the screw, tap it twice moderately, then hit with the impact. They usually pop right out.

Someone had been in there before. Tried your idea tho and one screw came out. The other two sent chiclets flying. Will keep working at them. Now no philips head anymore. ha.

If you use a drill bit the same size as the 6mm bolt, the head will pop off when you get to the right depth, and once the plate is off you will probably be able to turn what's left out.

Hand held impact hammer driver i call them is best in this situation Tap the head of the screw with a flat punch Then seat the New Sharp Impact tip No3 Phillips into the screw head then with the driver don't force it more than necessary or better don't force it at all but just give good hammer blows to the tool, maybe lightly held in the left hand direction & it'll come loose guaranteed. I have at work had an air impact gun shatter a new impact tip. Just my experience & cockups i've had--& there's lots of them lol.

Went one size smaller drill bit. Heat or vibration from drilling them, loosened them up. Saw the head move on the first one and reversed drill and the screw came out. Watched carefully on the next one, stopped and put vice grip on head of 2nd one and got it to turn, and backed it all the way out. whew. Thanks for holding my hand!

Yup I like those too and need to order new bits for mine apparently. Too many years on them. I started with that and may have been responsible for messing up one of these screws with the wrong bit. I'm going to order new bits for it for next time and new screws. Can't believe I got these things out intact. Will try to post pics. Thanks for your input.

Great work! Removing stuck/damaged screws is often one of the most challenging and certainly one of my least favorite things to do!
