Some enduro Luck! Is it...fate? was created by BajaBronco

Moving a buddy to Colorado last week - took his Ducati Monster Tricolore in the bed of my truck and his Mazda on my trailer. Was thinking I'd come back with a Bronco or some parts for work... .. However, we got off the interstate on a business loop for gas and food, and on the 3 mile loop, a familiar shape caught my eye! Another 71 DT-1 - I quickly did around the block to turn around, and in the 39degree sleeting weather I examined the bike - totally missed the for sale sign in front of it. Ran up to the building and knocked on the door. Soon I was riding it up the block after a first-kick start. Not too bad. I paid asking and picked it up on my way home! Seeing double in my garage now! It has a funky tach and some things need fixing, but it's pretty complete and hard to find in my west coast area....at least for any kind of cheap price. Appears to be from the salt lake city area originally, but I found it in Wyoming. I like it!

Not sure what this tach is from but not correct I know....wonder if anyone is looking for it.

I'm thinking seat, tach, and carb clean and reinstating auto lube! It has premix in it because owner wasn't sure if it worked...I think it's got too much oil now. Oh, and headlight!!!

I've been working on this one while I wait for my stator rebuild for my other 71. I flushed the tank as it was full of gunk from premix that sat I think. Anyway, that had clogged carb. Now carb all clean, tank clean, and Autolube working by spinning wheel and checking at head banjo. It starts first or second kick. Decided to go for longer than around the block. Its usually a blue smoker pretty big as it was premix before. Anyway, I rode it down the street and my wife was following on her Honda and when we got out on the highway it stopped with the blue smoke. We filled it with gas and checked and still had Yamalube.... Rode it home. Ran fine and smooth. I think it needs a chain. But now, when I start it still (2nd or 3rd kick always), it doesn't blue smoke like it used to. Something cured it. I can smell the 2 stroke oil, just not blue anymore.... What could this mean? Any thoughts? Meanwhile it seems my tubes dried out as when I aired it up last week for the ride, they are now both flat.

Normal.

Many of us have said it over and over when people complain about "excessive smoke". GET OUT AND RIDE IT.

Often it clears up on its own.

The lucky part is that the chain didn't break and take out the cases... that's what would happen to me if I thought it needed one and I went out for a ride without changing it. :Ugh

It just wanted attention! I like that. Okay. So. Next I’ll do chain and brakes and put those tubes in so the air stays inside the tire.

BajaBronco,
I just installed new Yamaha brake shoes on a 69 DT1, yours uses same shoe front & rear.
