The simple method we used to use as kids is wash the foam filter with premix (I was running 20:1 at the time). After gas evaporates, the premix oil is left.

I wouldn't say it's the best method or that premix oil is the best filter oil... but we did it all the time.

Here's the post that reminded me of that "old skool" method... I don't remember special filter oils back then so I might have read about it in a book or a magazine article or something... or someone showed us to do it that way?

Doing a 2 stage foam filter tonight. Has Cat hair cause kitty loves Bikes. Go figure.
My process is rinse with water to get major crud off ( and most cat hairs.... Hey T-Bone !!!!! ) use foam filter cleaner, let dry, stick it in a plastic bag , add FFT ( foam Filter Treatment oil ) move it around til the filter is good and coated, SQUEEEZE the snot outta it. Getting all if not most of the oil out of it. Install filter , let it dry and settle a bit. Kick that pig.
( Lucky You, Hasbrocam pictures..HA ! )

Drying time...

More tomorrow.
The bike I am working on is a ATC70 ( That has a surprise package of an 88cc top end for a member here. Yeah, it's T-bone's fun lil very Peppy scoot for his Grandkids. )

But will be doing ( at the same time, since I have the STICKY gloves on ...a 71 CT which doesn't look stock. insert a KTM pod filter. )
Gotta love them funky top ends !

Life is FUN !!! KEEP THOSE FILTERS CLEAN !!!

Found it.

H.P. Books Gary Bailey's How to Win Motocross from 1974 says at a particularly dusty race you might want to clean the air filter between heats. It recommends washing the foam filter in premix and and oil left behind after the gas evaporates will be enough to oil the filter.

That was back in the days that people took responsibility for their own actions and maybe the dangers of chemicals were not as well known... No book today would ever recommend using something as flammable and explosive as gas to clean anything. So at the very least common sense would say to wear gloves and be in a well ventilated area and stay away from ignition sources... no smoking or pilot lights anywhere nearby whenever gasoline is present.

I'll stick with the TwinAir air filter oil system. :Buds

I just mixed up some premix quick and it worked great cleaned the filter real well and left enough oily residue when it dried after squeezing out that it will catch dust thanks for the idea and btw yes it was over oiled because now it runs perfectly
