Pulled the dent from my oil tank today with the same kit you used. Bob on, Job done.

Found a bit of time to get a few bits done.
Cleaned all the crap off the engine, I haven't cleaned the top end as that's coming off for painting, so I'll clean it up then.
More plating of nuts and bolts.
Rack polished up and fitted, together with the rear indicators, had to get a bit of M8 threaded bar for the mounting studs.
I love the way the rack on this bike looks.
This evening I finally got round to cleaning the stator and fitting the new lighting coil, points and condenser and replacing a bit of sleeving on the source coil.
When I got the bike it had no spark and I dove into it before sorting it out so it was pretty satisfying getting the magneto back together and seeing a big blue spark from the plug.
Cable set ordered this week as well as enough sleeving from DEET for a few bikes.

Bore looks very good and piston is original 96 and also looks good, so happy days.
Top ring is stuck, I'll put a post out for advice on getting it to spring out.
Plenty of crap to clean off before blasting and painting.
Here are the before photos, might be a while for the after ones.

Top ring will be gummed up . Someone here previously has suggested using a heat gun
on it to soften the gum up , and the ring should free up . Obviously the ring lands will
need a good clean , so it doesn't gum up again straight away . I haven't tried the
heat gun myself , but it made good sense .

Soaking in solvent for a while... kerosene or diesel... will generally free up the ring... gasoline works good but dangerous fumes that might ignite.

Friend's neighbor recently lost garage and everything in it when an open pan of gasoline he was soaking parts in ignited.

Mark, I will avoid setting the house on fire if possible, although three of my bikes are in my neighbour's garage

Got the clean-up and bead blasting done today, I think they came out pretty good.
Gave them a thorough clean afterwards.
All ready for some paint and a hone.

Pete, you will find WD40 works a treat. It gets through oil based gum baked onto exhaust joints like lightening. So as most have it to hand give it a blast . Diesel will do it too.

Cheers Dave, I've got some penetrating oil on there at the moment.
I'll start with that and move on to the other suggestions if that doesn't work.
