Oil tank is ready for paint too.
I'd love to know exactly how they masked the stripes on both tanks originally.

Very pleased with the results so far.
I peeled the masking off after a couple of hours when the paint was still flexible, not sure if that's the best technique, but it certainly worked in this instance.
I'll do the clear coat next week.

I have only just found this product but think it should be in everyone's restoration arsenal .
Evaporust. Brilliant stuff.
I no longer use acid for etching before i plate now. Al told me it was available in the UK. You can even drop electrical components into it. Just brings rust out of everything. I have just cleaned a source and lighting coil up. Brought them up really well.
I use very fine steel wool as well on the aluminium to make it shine.
Yes your cases are painted grey silver. Good luck trying to find a paint in the UK that resist petrol and cleaning solutions. You can use spray max 2K lacquer but it just doesn't quite look right with it being shiny and the matt lacquer looks to dull.
The best paint is in the US . 1610 i think it is,and is made by Duplicolour. See if your mate can send you some . It has a ceramic in it and lads on here swear by it.
them toe less boots look brill that your lads got on too.

Very pleased with all the stripes, I took lots of photos before which helped and measured several places on the oil tank.
Dave, I will add Evaporust to my shopping list, thanks for the tip.

I got the Evaporust idea from a couple other forum members but I have not read of anyone else that actually soaked the stator .. I think someone else had soaked their flywheel which I have also done... I would not say it's 100% safe on a stator but it worked for me and you also... I would say it's an alternative to having to get another stator...

BUT I do want to say is that it WILL remove paint if left long enough.... I just would keep a close eye on it if you are soaking something more than 24 hours with paint involved...
