Hi all,
I just picked up another 1973 CT3! My wife is about to shoot me. Normally I would change the oil, clean the carb, change seals, gaskets etc.before trying to start. However, the last one I bought, still doesn't start and I dumped $2300 into it on top of what I paid.
So before putting too much $$ in prior to making sure it runs, just thought I'd check in with the forum.
My concern is mainly the clutch. It feels fine but not sure how dried out the friction plates are. I would also make sure the oil pump is operational prior.
Thoughts please.

Didn't try yet. Have to open er up and make sure things aren't too dried up. And I have a new flywheel key coming for #2 today. Have to get that one started so I can get the newest one on the lift.

I've never seen clutch plates "dry out" in storage.
Stick? Yes. But often just tying the clutch lever to the handlebar for a couple days and rocking in gear will break it free. Kinda normal. One of the oddball early car brands had a wet clutch and they actually had a mechanism to keep the clutch pedal held down for extended parking to prevent the plates from sticking.

First peek.............. Some kind of varmint got in through the air intake. What a mess! The reed valve is full of somthing. Secondly, removed carb. Anyone ever seen a carb with white dust built up in it?? Like alkalinity of some sort. The carb inside is froze up with varnish. Empied the gas tank and got about a quart of varnish out. Cleaned with acetone and soaking in metal rescue.
So far the cyclinder looks good through the intake so thats a plus.. Can't wait to take the clutch side apart and see what's in the crankcase.

White dust is corrosion. Some have called it "aluminum rust".

The throttle slide was froze up inside the body. Finally got it out but the throttle body is in bad shape. The slide won't go in. So, had to order a carb.
So the CT3 ( #2 of my collection) that I restored back to it's original flywheel and strator came to life today! I figured out the kick starter not returning and fixed that. The circlip that holds the gear had gotten bent up on the flange. Put it in the vise and gave it more bend to fit snugly in the case and that was it. I renewed everything on this one with the exception of the bottom end.
I installed a new tach cable but the tach is not working. If anyone has an idea why please let me know. The throttle slide was froze up inside the body. Finally got it out but the throttle body is in bad shape. The slide won't go in. So, had to order a carb.

In the meantime, CT3 #3 is now on my lift and ready to get restored.
