I should buy a lottery ticket this week, maybe two. . . was created by RT360Fan
So we just moved from TX to NC and we shipped one car and the RT2. The RT has been in storage for more than three years and I haven't started it since before covid hit 2 years ago. Anyway, It gets delivered to our new house in rural NC (we have 5 acres now) and I just rolled into the carport (the garage was about to get filled to the hilt with moving boxes and all my shop stuff) and forgot about it for a few days.
So yesterday afternoon/evening after doing a bunch of stuff in the house, my wife and were taking a break outside. It was a beautiful day. I looked at my wife and said "I'm gonna try a see if it'll start. It probably won't, it's been sitting too long". I gave it a once over, tires were a little low so I aired them up, check injector oil level, had almost a full tank of old fuel, brakes seemed to work. So I turned the petcock, fuel flowed into the carburetor. I waited, no leaks. I threw a leg over, actuated the decompression lever and gave her a kick. Nothing. Kicked again. Nothing. I pulled the choke lever and kicked again and she barked to life! Settled down to a decent idle, I blipped the throttle a few times and the response was decent. Off with the choke and she still idled relatively decent on her own with no need for throttle input. Wow, I was so happy! I almost couldn't believe she started and idled just fine after sitting unused for so long. So I pulled in the clutch lever and snicked into first gear, I figured the clutch plates would be frozen from sitting so long, but no. I let the clutch out and gingerly rode around the yard, taking her through the gears. Oh man, it'd been way too long, I had a smile ear to ear. Lottery ticket #1. . .
Of course I didn't want to stop at just riding around the lawn so I rode out into our street and rode up and down a few times, giving it more throttle. Seemed fine, maybe a bit thin at partial throttle (or typical RT2 behavior) and went through all the gears just fine. S I rode to the end of our street and had planned to turn around and return home, but across the street was a deaed end road that went past some fields and into the woods. I decided to take that road and extend my trip a bit. Well, I got about a 1/4 mile down and as I'm exiting a curve I see a Sheriff's car parked just up the road, facing me. Oh boy. . . I got no helmet on (I know). No NC registration. And I was probably speeding. Not to mention I'm on an annoyingly loud vintage two stroke. So I slowed and stopped in front of his SUV, thoughts of impounded motorcycle and hi dollar tickets flashing through my head. He was standing next to it waiting on me (probably heard me coming a mile away). I cut the engine and the first thing out of my mouth was "Geez, chances of running into you here?". He just nodded. I started blathering about how I had just moved here and had the bike in storage for three years and how I couldn't resist taking a ride on such a beautiful day and admitted that I had no registration or NC license. He just nodded again and then he made a hand signal like 'don't worry'. We introduced ourselves, I told him the house address we moved into. He then started to tell me about all the fields/trails around that I might ride in if I wanted, and who owned them, and watch out for hunters sometimes, and welcome to the area. He sent me on my way with no mention of any violations. Wow! Lottery ticket number two.

Bottom line, you owned up to you transgression and he gave you a break. Good for you and him.
