Smokeing big time, what to do? was created by Dave in WV
Hi all,
I have an old 1976 DT125 project bike, but that's on hold for the time being,,, now i have a problem with my other bike you guys might Shed some light on the problem. I also have a 1973 TS 185 Suzuki... that is much like a Yamaha 175... anyway my brother was riding the 185 and ran it out of 2 stroke oil and seized the piston at low speed. it cooled and unstuck itself... anyway it was old and i wanted to fix it up right, so I removed the barrel "jug" and head, had it bored and honed 1 size over, replaced the piston, rings, rist pin bearing, and all new gaskets. and new spark plug.. now i put in Amsoil interceptor 2 stroke oil motorcycle oil, now when i start it up it smokes a heavy blue smoke and drips liquid from the muffler gasket where the muffler connects to the head.. it smokes so bad its almost un-rideable... I know its getting compression, a very good grade of oil, and the oil pump is set correctly. so what could be causing this problem? i thought maybe the rings are in upside down, but someone told me they cannot go in up-side down? any ideas guys? i would assume somewhere a Yamaha Enduro might have the same problem. and a simple fix.
Any Help is appreciated
Dave.

Sounds like transmission oil is getting into crankcase? Is trans oil level dropping?

How confident are you that the bore was measured properly and that the new piston & rings fit the new bore properly? In other words are you confident in the workmanship? Genuine Suzuki parts or aftermarket?

Right side crank seal on those is on the inside so total dismantle to replace. Unlikely to have got damaged when it ran dry but possible i guess. Fill the trans with a smelly oil like Castrol R for a nice smell or EP90 diff oil for a terrible smell like my car drips on the exhaust underneath from the diff. You'll know pretty quick if its the seal. If its running normal is it possible the pipe is just in need of a burn out & empty out. Once they get oil soaked right through it'll smoke for 100 miles but a good burn out at least gets you back to square one.
