First top end question was created by adguy2112
Finally got my CT3 all put back together and while it idles and accelerates perfectly and with good torque the engine is so noisy I decided to remove the top end (my first) to inspect the piston and see if I could determine the cause. I think the crank bearings are toast but would very much appreciate confirmation. I included a few videos and a still image of the piston.

To spin it i hook a stretchy cord straight up to something [frame], makes it easy. You did a realy good video though & can hear the rusty mains [& possibly bigend but more main bearings]. To be honest my AT1 got parked for a long time like 12 months or more & had got growly like that. [not sure why as was ok when parked up & hadn't washed it]. Mine was lightly Stuck & thought 'What The' So freed it & made a Very Oily mix, ran it for a while & it settled down good & still ok a year later. I have a 175 top end on mine. Ok i hate spending money [tight a--s] so always trying to find ways around problems. If you start you'll be in for big money, mains, seals, conrod crank rebuild, maybe rebore looking at piston blowby so at least a rings but prefferably a piston kit with little end bearing & pin, gaskets. Sorry if that's 'really' made your day--but just saying!!. Best of luck with what you decide. Talking Toast--it's not quite burnt toast so running it up with a very oily mix might scrape the burnt toast off--he said hopefully. Cheers from NZ.
Sorry keep adding & changing bits.

Thanks guys. I noticed a little crack on the piston skirt do definitely will be doing a rehire and piston. I know what you mean, RT, about running it and having it quiet up after a bit. I saw that with my LT2 which had been full of water. Still runs fairly well. Not so worried about the investment as I plan to keep this one. I have already brought it back from oblivion.

Sorry for any confusion, It was a basket case when I got it. Got into the wet side with broken idle kick gear, spun kick gear bearing, points and condenser replaced, all cables were trashed, missing gear shift lever, handle controls, headlight bucket and wiring, rust everywhere, all the rubber, tank and seat gone. Had it not been for the lower end this bike would be done. So now I’ll pull the engine and do my first case split and top end. Should be fun!
