Fuel Filter : Are most of you using one? was created by Quartermaster35

I don't believe that most of the Yamaha's originally came with one..... Just curious if most have one installed or not?

I put one on my CT3, but it sure is a tight fit to get it all in there (seems like a "good idea")

You do see them fitted on a lot of bikes nowadays. I've read, though, that a constant fuel supply to each cylinder can be an issue if fitted to twins.

As well as any filters in the petcock, the reserve pipe in the tank is filtered. Whilst the main pipe isn't, it is possible to fit one over the top of it.

Some folks fit in line filters for the oil feed - there is a brass filter in the oil tank, but the "mesh" might be quite coarse.

I make sure my petcocks have the original filters and my tanks are clean. I never liked the looks of aftermarket filters.

Looks or not I put in line filters on all my bikes. I get seriously tired of removing carbs. Even with a good petcock filter the in line filter still manages to catch particles.

I do too, if the gas tank is not pristine. Had cleaned my CT2 tank with a vinegar soak but it had a lot of surface rust. Eventually plugged a filter, and have plugged the pilot twice even with a filter installed. Hopefully she is past that now!

all of my 44 to 52 year old tanks ranged from dirty to absolutely filthy, so after cleaning them as good as possible I removed the tiny filters that are internal to the petcock and replaced with see-through external filters so I could catch all the crud and not have petcock filters clog up on middle of the road.  After first or second external filter change the filter runs nice and clean and I decided to keep these larger external filters than to reinstall the very easy to clog internal petcock filters.
