Head Replacement or Conversion was created by LuckyLuke
Re: Headlight Replacement or Conversion
Hello;
Sorry something went wonky with my last post on this and I deleted it and started over...
I need to replace the headlight on my CT2 and not sure what is the best way to go. I have done some research on past posts and there is a lot of discussion on actually converting the bike from 6volt to 12volt. I also have seen some products that allow you to insert a sealed unit with clips to hold it in place and others that allow you to insert a H4 bulb in the back of a conversion lens. The conversion headlight lens with clips is something that I am looking to try and seems the easiest and allows for future replacement. See attached..
Also, I was thinking of a LED headlamp but not sure about that. See attached as well.
Anyone have some thoughts on this as to what is the lastest and the greatest with the least amount of investment.
Thanks
Luke

I can only speak from my own experience to use sealed 4020 6V bulbs. I tried to use the clips that wedge under the rim but they kept popping off when I installed the rim to the bucket. My fix was to make a piece to hold the headlight to the rim using part of an aluminum drip catcher from a stove with springs. For me it worked well except I had to avoid breaking the high beam pilot light indicator body when installing. I have this on two of my bikes.

There are lots of posts in the forum search on converting to 12V but I think it's far less work to get a voltage regulator (also lots of posts here) to keep from blowing bulbs and stay with stock 6V. Maybe the headlight isn't as bright at low RPMs but I'd rather spend time riding and not messing with the changes needed.

Clips have to be fitted a certain way. If flipped over they pull at a severe angle & pop off when fitting the rim. Other way they pull straight down rather than angled & stay put.

Which yamaha clip is best to use with a generic replacement sealed beam?
Thanks,
Joe M (also with a CT1B)
