Cleaning the CDI was created by hackman101

Putting the bike back slowly and overcoming obstacles one at a time as I go along. This time it is the CDI asembly. It is a bit gunked up from oil? dirt? what have you. The cover was on all the years I had it in storage, and it was never off anytime I was riding it back in the day.

I do not want to just set in gas or use brake cleaner, since it may damage the shellac around the windings. I also know that if it is truly shellac, that alcohol would dissolve it.. I am figuring somebody must have tackled a situation like this before so I hope. Thanks in advance on any light you may shed.

I'd personally use electric cleaner or contact cleaner with a clean toothbrush, Lots of options out there. That's my two cents but others may have different strategies they use.

Simple green and hot water rinse. put it over a heat register to dry for a couple days.
