Sad end to vintage parts was created by adguy2112

I saw a listing on FB marketplace for a big warehouse clearance sale on used vintage motorcycle parts in my area. It was supposed to be going from 10-2 today. I’m historically late to things so showed up at 11. When I arrived there was a scrap hauler dumping boxes of carbs and foot pegs in the back of their truck. The parts owner was inside and apologized. Said no one had showed so they called the junker and the many remaining bins were already promised to the junker. I saw loads of Yamaha turn signals being carelessly tossed and there was nothing I could do about it. So sad. That said he let me have anything from the remaining free. I don’t need a bunch of street bike fairings but grabbed a loose Mikuni carb and the guy invited me to see his new eBay facility which is opening soon. Says he has tons of DT and RD stuff. Hate to see such an important part of history become aluminum foil and tin cans.

My uncle was a master machinist, and at work they were always recycling leftover metal.  He had a good relationship with the scrap metal guy, who would offer him motorcycles he got as scrap.  When my "uncle" passed away, I got a bunch of vintage Honda motorcycle parts that he squirreled away from the metal recycler.

Unfortunately now in some places it is not legal for the metal recyclers to sell the scrap they get.  Often it is much more valuable as what it was made for (motorcycle parts) than scrap aluminum, copper and steel.
