Best way to disassemble Gauges was created by loner

I have a pair of gauges for my 1978 DT125e. They have plastic housings and bases connected together. The chrome ring is not attached to the gauge, but sits atop the rubber pad and fits around the base of the gauge (both gauges). What is the best procedure to disassemble in order to replace the plastic lens?

I read all that DEET had posted on this matter and tried to delete my post here, unsuccessfully.
