VINTCO Piston Set, any experience? was created by Wessi
I was waiting now 6 weeks for a Wossener piston kit for my DT 250, 1.5mm over. In whole Europe, it´s sold out and for time being no production foreseen by Wossner. i found the right Wossner on EBAY in US. The seller said yes, it´s availble.and a Wossner Today i opened the box and found a Vintco Piston set instead. PSY02-1.5.(71.44mm) I am really pissed, not any comment from the seller about that change. Before i write him, i would like to know, if anybody ever drove this set. Comparing it with my old Wossner 1.0mm over, it looks the same. Even the stamping inside of both pistons is W72-20, so probably a Wossner. But laser engraving and paint is different. Look at the paint runner on the bottom of the skirt.. I know, this paint is just for helping first few Miles, but.... Would you send it back or use it?

I'd use it without hesitation.
Did it come from Southern California? If so, I've met the owner and seems like a great guy.
Wossner is like Wiseco... they will make you anything you want if you place a minimum order. My understanding is Vintco is just a Wossner with the Vintco "badging". I've found Wiseco pistons that were made for another company and marketed differently as well. It's a good thing someone is putting up the capital to make these old parts.

Has it got rings with it. My maths is terrible but at 71.44 does the come up at .06mm under 71.50mm. If so then it has about the right clearance .06mm is around 2.4 thou in my head. So wiseco type pistons run a wider clearance in which case you should be good to go. Tell me someone if i'm adding wrong!!? please. Just file up that damage you show. It'll be good.

Somehow I missed that it was bought on ebay. I thought it came from Wossner USA for some reason.

I would be upset about that.
If not boring to that size, if might be a problem if not correct size. If boring, the machinist should set the clearance correctly.

Think its already bored Mark as says 1.5 over so 71.5--& '70 is std'. Unless i'm missing something lol, quite likely.
Ok, edit edit--maybe not already on 1.5 as i thought, so will be 'boring too that'!!. Me thinking he was just replacing a piston already at 1.5 over.

Thank you all.
The barrel already is bored to 71.50, the machinist said for Wossner, always the zero value is the target. so clearance should be 0.06mm.
Yes, the piston came as a set with rings, clips and pin. I am sure, it´s a Wossner, every detail and stamping is the same as my old 71.00 Wossner. But it i had no old Wossner piston to compare, i wouldn´t know. I will carefully sand away the paint nose and use it. There seems to be no other 1.5mm over available for time being. It´s like Mark wrote, Vintco bought a couple of Wossner pistons and rebranded them.

Update: i went with the piston to my machinist, who is also a big Wossner and Wiseco dealer . He said this Vintco part never is a Wossner. Also the paint on the skirt is totally different, we compared it with some other Wossner pistons, he had on stock. Completely different in structure and color. Also the paint nose on the skirt would never pass any serious quality management. Diameter, he measured, was 71.49, so not enough clearance. As i can not rate the quality of the piston further, i will send it back..
