Stripped threads-float bowl main jet was created by brigsy

68 DT1 has been running well, have been tweaking the carb here for awhile. Flatting the flange that was severely warped, adjusting float level, cleaning and cleaning and so on. I’ve had carb on and off maybe 6-7 times and used banjo bolt to drain the bowl. Really didn’t feel like I was over tightening the bolt, just little snug after hand tight. But here I am with stripped threads in the float bowl. What a dreadful feeling when that bolt came loose. Pulled it out and found a thin coil of thread wrapped around it. Looked too fine to be a helicoil. Threads on the bolt are worn as well. Anyone run into this before and whats the best option? Thanks!

See if - it will leak. Try some BLUE Locktite. You will be buying a new bowl anyway. They don't strip out normally. Just tight enough the fuel doesn't drip on the motor. I use a short wrench not a long.

I'm assuming that the washer is present?

If no-one has a good spare i'd just thread the start of the hole & cap it off. Then run a main jet straight into the needle jet like a normal carb. Thread in needle jet will need a tweak, just run a tap matching the jet up the spout as a slightly different thread, & she'll be good. Just what i'd do, & make it work.

Also, if you do 'anything' to repair the existing setup it must be a good tight thread to seal as all fuel must be passed via the jet & not past a dodgy thread in the bowl. Fuel goes reverse through the jet as it sits in the jet holder 'carb bowl drain' not from the number end as usual, not that it matters.

Thanks guys. Yeah it has new washer. Doesn’t leak badly but enough. Couldn’t believe it stripped out because I try to be gentle with everything on the bike especially the carb. Not in a hurry though so guess I’ll start searching for a new bowl!

Actually the flow direction does matter...  models with jet holder flow fuel the "correct" (backwards) way for the Amal-type reverse flow jet... which is how the jets are flow tested.  Flow changes slightly with direction.

The Mikuni round main jet has the slightly different thread that screws right into the early early emulsion tubes...

Mikuni eventually decided it didn't matter that much and started using the "reverse flow" jets backwards...  the actual calibration is slightly off from the number stamped but works just fine.

More trivia nobody needs to know.

Thanks again for the input! Forgot I had a carb on the 72 Dt2 so the bowl should bolt right up from that! Is there any difference between these carbs other than the jets and the idle screw? Lucked out this time.
