DT400E vape/PowerDynamo system installation was created by B-26K
Installing a VAPE/PowerDynamo system and the wiring instructions are terrible. I have a few questions concerning connecting the wires. Timing is done according to the book at 2.9mm BTDC. White/red, brown ,black, yellow, green/white, and blue wires came from the old stator into the main wiring harness of the bike. My understanding of the installation was to connect “3” of those wires listed above which would be yellow, green/white and something else. The third wire is unknown to me and I don’t want to connect the wrong one, so would it be the white/red or the brown? The Blue wire is ground from the kill switch I believe and the black as well from the old stator. The other question is what to do with the yellow/white wire that connected to the old regulator? Do I cap it or actually connect it to something? I see that the other end of that yellow/white wire gets connected to the red power wire (battery ) per the instructions of the vape system. All and any Advice is appreciated!

If they don't run a crank key please be sure to fully tighten the flywheel. Sorry--had to say it but i'm sure you know.
Isee you're new so welcome from NZ down under.
I'm sure someone 'in the know' will be along shortly. Cheers.

You might be referencing instructions I recently gave here for an earlier model...
An "E" model should be a 1978 with NO headlight on/off switch.
Yes, stock one-wire voltage regulator needs to be disconnected and should be removed from the bike. You can tape up the wire or leave it hanging as it should be a female with an insulation boot.
VAPE regulator output connects to yellow and green/white that went to original stator. 2 wires, not 3. You must leave the stock rectifier in place (white and red) under the tank.
The stock black/white kill wire went to the original CDI box... I connect it to the orange at the CDI box which connected to the stock ignition coil. Then you have a kill wire (the orange) right at the old coil to connect to the new VAPE coil.

Oh, if the blue wire you're talking about is a Yamaha wire, it's likely the neutral switch wire.

commented out the wiring. if I labeled anything wrong, someone please correct. I don't pay much mind to CDI boxes other than to hope they work.

MarkT, wish I would have done the same on my 360 regarding the ORANGE wire connection. I think its a black wire on the connector for the DT360, but would have to look closer. Essentially right in the connector!! VAPE should add that to the instructs. Duh, I routed a black wire back to coil.

MAGNETO/IGNITION:
White/red, brown: pickup from magneto to trigger CDI.
black: ground
MAGNETO/LIGHTING
yellow: speedo/tach/headlight (AC power); regulated via Y/W wire.
sky blue: ground for neutral light.
MAGNETO/CHARGING:
green/white: connects to rectifier, then to battery for charging.
CDI:
W/R, Brown: incoming signal from magneto trigger
Black: ground
Orange: Primary Coil winding power.
B/W: kill switch when grounded

Thank you guys for your time. I have it wired up wrong in some areas including the rectifier as I removed it from the system. I believe I have all of the information I need!
Again, thank you!

Mark, if you could explain this portion of information to me. I hooked up the blue VAPE wire from the coil to the orange wire going into the CDI box but it is not grounding when I turn the ignition key and cut-off switch to the OFF position. Clearly I have something wrong here. Should I connect the blue coil wire to the black-white wire instead?

At the original CDI box location the kill wire black/white plugged into the CDI box as did the orange to the coil.
Simply take the orange harness wire at the original CDI box and the harness black/white at the original CDI box and connect them together at the old CDI box location. Unless someone has hacked the original CDI box wiring, the orange and black/white wires are terminated with male and female connectors that allow them to plug right in to each other.
Alternatively, yes, you can string a new wire from the VAPE blue to the black/white.
Using the original existing orange in the harness instead of running extra wires seems like a cleaner and more "elegant" solution to me, but running another wire works just as well... (if you run your own wire, then at the risk of stating the obvious, you do not connect the VAPE blue to the harness orange... the orange is just left unconnected.)
