Glad you found it!

Unless they changed something, the VAPE kit comes with an extra long  spark plug wire and a cap that needs to be installed after wire is cut to the correct length for your installation. 

And every one I've installed (several) had the "thread onto the wire" type non-resistor spark plug cap like the original Yamaha type.  There's really nothing to "cut back".  Wish you had pics so we could see what needed to be "cut back" in case someone else runs into this issue.
