Painting fenders on 73 RT3 yamaha was created by Huskyking

Just trying to get a sense of what others have done when painting metal fenders.
Just in process of doing metal fenders on my RT3 my painter is asking me if I want rock guard on inside of rear fender… it's black, im thinking it will take away the look from the restored fender… .any thoughts or past experience out here… thx

I certainly wouldn't put you off having some sort of protective coat on the underside, although here in the UK it's more for protection from rust, rather than rocks!

Hello Huskyking,
I would say that protection from rocks on the under side of the rear fender is not that necessary. My CT3 has seen thousands of street miles as well as at least a one to two thousand miles of trail riding. The under side of the rear fender shows no real signs of paint chipping due to rocks. However if you really feel the need, then I would recommend a heavy coat of clear on the fender.
