Thanks guys. I might try to make some drawings or pictures to describe what I tried to say in words... I think in this case the old saying "a picture is worth a thousand words" would apply.

PROGRESS!!! Tell me if this makes sense, with the motor NOT running, key in first position I can get brake lights, put key in third position I get taillight but can't get brake light. Could this be because the motor is not running and so not putting out enough power to light both?

That's possible. But if true, when you hit the brakes with key in 3rd position, the taillight would also go out if battery wasn't up to task of running both at the same time.
With key in 3rd position, does the horn still work?
(My guess is key switch contacts are acting up)

Thanks Mark, The taillight does not go out with key in third position and brake light does not light. As for the horn, when I first tried it a few days ago it wouldn't sound off (so to speak), but you could hear it click, it now will do nothing, not even click.

The red wire at the key switch is battery power from the battery so should have power all the time.
The brown wire at the key switch powers the brake light, signals, and horn with key in position 2 or 3. My guess is brown has power in 2 but not 3?
Horn is probably just bad. But what you can do is disconnect the horn since it's easy to get to and test the brown wire at the horn for voltage. It should have no voltage with key off, and then voltage with key on in 2 and 3. From what you said, it sounds like you'll find brown circuit has power is 2 but not 3? (Horn also has a pink wire that gets grounded when you press the button to make it beep)

Thanks Mark, taking a brake from the bike and need to get some work done on my house (getting ready to sell hopefully by late spring). Will check on those you mentioned later. Thanks again!

So I tested the horn leads as described by Mark, with the key in first on position I get just over 6v, with it in 3rd position I get just over 4v. I can hear the horn clicking trying to sound off. I connected the other horn Bill gave me, same thing. I think I have another horn around somewhere, I'll have to see if I can find it or just order another.

Is it possible the battery just isn't up to it. In pos#3 what else is drawing, tail light etc so not leaving enough to kick the horn as it draws a bit I think. Horn us adjustable to a point but don't want to adjust with weak battery to get a toot or could make it squeal with a full 6+ volts. What wattage tail bulb are you running. NOW-i might be talking rubbish but if you plug red to brown before the switch it'll activate everything directly related to brown?? as a test to eliminate switch problems??anyone??.

Hi Morley, when I tested the battery it had over 6v, I think it was near 6.5v. With the key in the second position and not third shouldn't the taillight not be on?
Also, I still think I have an issue since when I have the key in the third position and hit one of the brakes the brake light doesn't light, I guess it could be as Mark mentioned that the battery just doesn't have enough juice for both, will need to test it running I guess or just never ride it in the dark, which is more than likely the case.
