VIN tables are in the Tech Library... going by them you have a 73 DT3 though the color doesn't sound right, may have been repainted or different tank installed.
1963 YG1-T, 1965 MG1-T, Allstate 250, 1970 CT1b, 1971 R5, 1973 AT3MX, 1974 TS400L, 1975 RD350, 1976 DT175C, 1976 Husqvarna 250CR, 1981 DT175G, 1988 DT50, 1990 "Super" DT50, 1991 RT180, 2017 XT250

The info was available in the Tech library . Accordingly it appears your bike is a late production 1973 DT3 .
Green and occasionally Red were the original colours , but the 72 DT2 was a washed out orange colour .
Maybe a repaint , or tinware swap at some stage . That's assuming the chassis numbers and engine numbers match .

Agree with the previous posts, but would add that 21" front wheel also points to 1973 bike.

Photos would be good and useful, but you'll need to use a third party host such as Imgur to upload them here.
1973 bikes had a black and white stripe up the centre of the front mudguard. Original mudguards hugged the front wheel, but many owners replaced these with high mudguards, mounted to the underside of the bottom yoke/steering stem/triple tree.

As was said, 21" front wheel was standard on the 1973 DT3

Does it have a stock silver high front fender? 1974 had 21" front wheel, orange tanks, and was the first year of the high front fender. I had 2 of them over the years...

1974 was also the first year for the Thermal-Flow piggyback shocks. They have a black, finned "cannister" as part of the shock absorbers. Also, the '74 had "Yamaha" as a white letter decal on the fuel tank, with an approx. 1/4" white pinstripe on the outer perimeter of the fuel tank.
