Spiral gear on shaft is too big to go through bushing so that would stop shaft from walking out of pump.

But you're probably right... shaft might pull itself into pump when running.

Yeah i'm blind. I see the C clip now Mark points it out. So no internal washers limiting pump shaft end movement, which shouldn't be a lot anyway.
