Umm--interesting there TEE_CEE & welcome by the looks. So are using your dial gauge with the angled plug hole?. I don't want to open a can of worms--don't even like worms lol, so i'll 'say no more'. Sorry, say no more, reminded me of this. Don't even watch it lol. Ok, removed it haha its so #$%^ stupid--monty python.

The angled plug hole does mean that the measurement is not exactly the piston travel. We are measuring the long side of a narrow triangle. It's probably pretty close.

Yamaha's method using a fixture that screws in the plug hole works the same way, so it seems they have already made allowance for this.

I found an online piston travel calculator. With a 105mm con rod, the points open at 20 degrees BTDC when advanced.

Setting the advance to open at 3mm only gets you to 25 degrees, so It doesn't seem super critical.
