Thoughts on fuel filters?
the one that was put in when my bike was fixed is needing replaced. Struggling finding one similar (he used a tiny one like one might see on a Polaris ranger) bike was sputtering and starving for fuel...I went no filter and she is back to normal
Do I need one? My tank was.pretty crappy, it was cleaned about 15 times...fuel out looks nice to me as I just put in a new petcock gasket..

my DT1E tank was pretty rusty inside
so I shook it with a few pounds of drywall screws and Evaporust to clean as much as possible. Then I installed petcock without filters and instead added a relatively large inline filter. Changed it once already when it became filthy, the thought being that after once or twice any rust that would break free would have been caught. The only downside is that the reserve side of the petcock that drinks from the bottom of the tank got plugged, meaning no reserve. Judging from the look of the 2nd filter I think I got most of the crud and In another 500 miles or so I will take it all apart again and assuming that the reserve inlet to petcock is clean then I will reinstall with the filter in the petcock and consider things done. Larger filter also harder to fit, I had to do a loop on line

I had deleted my original post because I had already asked a similar question earlier...oops!! Good advice though. I worried the small filter wouldn't be enough flow. Thanks.
