CT1C Oil Tank was created by Brzn
I'm helping the neighbor with a 1971 CT1C 175. The oil tank has two cables/straps on the back side with eyelets on both ends. They almost look like ground wires. One end is on the oil tank and I don't know where the other ends attach. The schematics on Partzilla show the cables/straps but not where they go and I don't see any information regarding them in the service manual. Anyone have pictures of them attached or able to explain where they go? Thanks

On either side of the battery box should be a stud with a hole in. The islets sit over these, with a 'R' clip holding them in place.
The purpose is to prevent having to remove the oil tank if you're working in that area - with the straps, it can pivot out to give you the necessary space.
Photos attached - first one is easier to see than the second!

Nice pictures Alan!
Not that it needs to be said but specifically, the oil tank is in the way of servicing the air filter so the cables are there to allow the tank to hang after you unbolt the tank to get to the filter.
Nice touch Yamaha added if you ask me.

(CT owner's manual in the Tech Library here likely explains this in the "maintenance" section, might be a picture too)

Alan, The second pic. Is the cable attached to the battery ground? Can't quite make out where it's at.
We were about to do some carb cleaning and took the oil tank off to remove the air filter and I figured the cables were probably to hold the tank to allow it to be a one man job, but just couldn't see where they went.
Thanks guys!

Here are some better images of the cable attaching to the front of the battery box.

Those two cables work perfectly as intended. I recently replaced the rubber boot between the air box and the carburetor on my CT1C with a nice new one from KDI and the oil tank hung perfectly by those cables allowing me to access the air box mounting screws. And the oil tank was full yet nothing came out the overflow. Simple functionality. Gotta love it.
