3D Printed DT-1 airbox was created by fmxr47

I’ve acquired a DT-1 that is in rough shape. Needs new fork upper tubes, resealed the tank, intake has several leaks and a few carbs to choose from in a box. I swapped a 21” front wheel and a new front tire to match the new rear. Added some preload spacers to the forks and some eBay rear shocks. The carb that came on the bike had a pod filter that appeared like a K&N you’d find in a street bike. I knew I wanted to get an airbox but I wasn’t fond of the prices on the used market. I have a background in 3d modeling and a 3D printer in my office. I decided to make my own airbox, here’s are some pics of the progress. I still have not installed it yet. I still need to reprint in the proper filament that will withstand heat better.

Nice work! Just out of curiosity, how long of a print is that?

Looks like you are not planning on using the oil injection. I would recommend using the oil injection system vice the oil a fuel mix as it is really a neat working system. But in any event nice job on the air box.
Be Happy!

I am using this as a vintage mx bike, no oil tank so that’s why I went with the side opening for the airbox. I’ve had a couple of old Yamahas with the same oil pump setup and have used them but also have had them blocked off. I run premix in all my other bikes so it’s no issue for me. Plus I didn’t have the tank when I got the bike either.

The print was about 9hrs for the box and 45 min for the lid.

I wish I was smart enough to make something like that.

That airbox is awesome! Could you make a replacement DT1 GYT / DT1C-MX airbox that would handle the stock or replacement air filter? Originals are expensive and hard to come by.

Are the printed parts durable?

Great job! There are so many parts you could make with that thing that we need.

Blimey, i'm behind the times. Is it full size or is that a mini practice model in your hand, or an illusion. Do you think the filter will have enough volume on open throttle. Sorry, just questions i had to ask. I'm more than impressed though.

Idk why the Tapatalk app won’t let me quote/reply to a comment. I’m Using PLA+ filament for testing but plan to finalize this with PETG filament which is a bit stronger and more heat tolerant for the exhaust being relatively close. I looked at a newer airbox from an early 70’s DT and mimic’d the openings on the bottom. I’m hopefully installing this version in the next day or two when I address the intake leaks.
