Rt1mx rear tire size was created by Bore Monger

Greetings all...
.  My question is...will a 4.60x18 fit on a 1971 RT1mx?

Tire sizes, especially knobbies using the old "inch" sizes, can vary widely in actual dimensions.  One 4.60 x 18 might fit fine, another might not fit at all.  There are even documented cases of a smaller size tire actually being physically larger than a tire from the same manufacturer/model that is supposed to be a larger size.

Sometimes you can find a tire dimension chart with actual dimensions. You'll quickly see "nominal" size on the sidewall really doesn't mean much ...especially in the old system.

The 70-71 RT1 (MX) and RT1-B (MX) manual that i have says 4.00x18 stock.
I remember putting on a Dunlop 606- 4.50x18 and sweating because the huge knobbies almost hit the swing arm. It worked but darn it was close !

I left the bigger tire ( 4.60x18 ) for my CR480 that has the poop to turn that monster tire.
