Triple Tree Size was created by Buttertac

Hey guys…I’m restoring a 1970 CT1. Looks like at some point it was in a wreck and the owner replaced the front end. I’m replacing parts to put it back to stock including the forks. Now that I have the original forks on the bike they appear to be too wide. The correct CT1 axel is not long enough. I’m thinking the triple tree is from a different bike.
Can anyone tell me how wide the opening between the chrome fork shafts should be? Want to be sure I have the wrong triple tree before I searchb for a replacement. Thank you!

Can you take some pictures my first thought is you have CT 2 forks because they take a longer axle bolt

Thanks for the measurement. I measured the distance between the chrome tubes and it is 5 3/8”. I’m stumped.

Ht1kid was correct. Those are not CT1 forks.

CT1 forks had steel lowers. Yours are aluminum. Probably CT2-CT3 forks.

This is interesting - I have a green CT1 project also. My original fork tubes were very bad and I happened to find some excellent CT3 forks. They came with the tripple tree and I then noticed the sublte changes and improvements with the later tree (beefier). But I realized I wanted to keep my original CT1 top portion (due to how the handle bars mount), so I can attest that CT1 and CT3 tripple trees have the same "pitch". Like other's said, the axle is longer on the later set up due to the aluminum sliders having thicker sections at axle holes. Also note there is also different brake back plate between different models (steel vs alum fork sliders).
