Lighting charging coils are earthed, not like a true alternator, so out of my league but not sure how that works with a modern solid state regulator rectifier, or do you have to unearth the coils & run the earth wire to the reg-rec. So an normal two wire rectifier of any mag Yamy would charge your battery if it can get high enough at revs & sounds like it will. So i wouldn't worry about trying to regulate it just see how it goes. Put a meter across batt & see what ya get at revs. I've said it before, but on my old Honda TRX300 quad the reg-rec went up in smoke. So i just found an old Yamy rectifier & pretty sure i had to earth one phase as mine is a true alternator, then picked the wire that gave a safe charge at revs. Been like it for a couple of years & used most days but only localy around the farm so not full revs although was safe when i set it up. So thinking yours is a big healthy 12 volt battery having originaly been electric start & could soak up all you could give it. One more thing i just thought of is i'm not 100% sure but ignition source on some models are earthed into the lighting coil for some reason & if so i'm not sure what complications that would add. Wouldn't for a straight rectifier but i mean for a reg-rec if you need to use the earth end of the charge-lighting coils. Sorry, turned into essay time again.

Well, I ordered one of the inexpensive ($10) 12V rectifiers / voltage regulators that Mark recommended and it's only producing 6+/- V DC output The stator pushes up to 30V AC coming out on the yellow wire at high RPM prior to plugging it into the rectifier/regulator. Will try to de-ground the lighting coil, and try various configurations to see if I can get it to work.
