68 DT1 Frame, Parts? was created by Pedalcrazy
Hi all,
Some of you may recall I purchased a 68 DT1 last fall but there is no VIN on frame or motor. So it really became a parts bike for my better one I’m restoring. The better one is coming together so I’m looking for my next project. It got me thinking that if anyone out there has a 68 DT1 frame but nothing to go with it maybe you’d be willing to part with it? I think I could build another complete 68 DT1 bike with all my spare parts I’ve acquired. But I won’t build a bike with no VIN anywhere. A VIN on the frame but not on the motor wouldn’t be the only one like that out there. I’d like to put my parts to use and put another authentic 68 DT1 back on the road. Anybody with a frame and/or parts please PM me. Thanks, Steve in Iowa.

I’ve looked closely at the area on the frame where a VIN should be (like all my other enduros including a 68) and there is no evidence that one ever existed. No evidence of grinding etc… frame is lightly painted black so no heavy paint covering it up. Same as the motor plate where a VIN should be. No evidence of grinding it off. Height of the place on motor looks identical to my others and so I would think if ground down to remove a VIN the height of that pad would be noticeably shorter. Interesting thing about the bike is that previous owner appears to have ground off the raised “Yamaha” on both side cases of the motor. Some light sanding by me shows possible remnants of the name “Yamaha “. The guy I bought it from said he owned it over 30 years and is the same condition as he bought it in. So, any modifications were done over 30 years ago.
