Been there, done that. New body imo. Such a bummer! 

I'd have a go at drilling both bits to take a small pin, then see if it can be tig welded.
Could try the pin method with JB Weld instead of Tig.
Looks like there's space for an outer sleeve if you slot it to clear the web support near where the valve screws in.
Nothing to lose

I had or have [where is it] a Bing 36mm carb broken like that & ran with one leg for 30 or more years with no problem at all. Just used a long screw 3mm or whatever & had a nut just inside to keep it tight & straight. Then another nut the other end to hold the float on. Might've squashed the nut to make it go on tight. Or used two nuts locked together. Worked 100%

Agreed, that's a great idea by RT325. Also a warning to the rest of us. I just changed my needle seat, and I used to small box end wrench, but I was trying to be very careful.. Stuff happens.

So true Tom, part of the fun in life and these bikes is that I learn something new every day.  I love RTs creativity- the cantilevered float!  I whimped out and bought a nice pair for $75 on eBay, seems almost too good to be true we will see!
