I don't recall a red & white wire from the stator. Did you mean two wires "red" & a "white" or one red/white striped wire. Nearest i can think would be "Green/Red" from stator. Anyway, my first thought going by what you say 'is' that the rectifier under the tank is shot. Rectifier has a white wire going in from the loom & a red wire going out to the battery via the loom. If it's poohed it can short the battery back down to the lighting coil. Not even sure that would blow the fuse or if it would just drag the life out of the battery very fast as wouldn't be a dead short but a high resistance i guess [help somebody please] out of my depth without being there to prod & poke haha--lot easier when you see smoke [Ahha, there's the problem].

Red and white is from the lighting coil?
Have a look in the generator area to see if anything is shorting out there.

Is it just me?--but can't see a red white from the lighting coil. Think its green then green/red then yellow.
Link to a "71 CT1 from the tech library. Expands up really clearly. Goodnight.

I was looking at the picture of a new lighting coil on CMSNL for the 1971 CT1C.

Sounds like bad rectifier?
