Which model is my petrol tank from? was created by Gr8uncleal

Well, my "CT1C" continues to throw up surprises!

Next on the list is the petrol tank. The tap is attached by way of a single large nut (as seen on some MX tanks), as opposed to two screws. Also, it might have been red originally (unless red was an undercoat). Does anyone know what this tank was an original fitment for?

Photos attached.

Many thanks.

I think HT1 was the only enduro badge tank that had the threaded bung that I can think of...  tank would be smaller than AT/CT I think?

There are some street bikes with badge tanks too... not too up on those but some look a lot like enduro tanks and may have had the threaded bung..

Thanks Mark.

1969 HT1 tank, I think, was the same colour as the CT1C (Candy Orange). As he has both models, I have asked #shyted for tank dimension comparisons.

Thanks chaps.

Does anyone know how the HT and AT/CT sizes compare? As you can see from these photos, the tank isn't obviously undersized.

I think the tank is the same length, height is very close (from memory - maybe even the same) but it is narrower when looking down from on top. It also is wider underneath in the tunnel at the front between the 2x round tank rubber mounts. The HT frame must be wider at this point.
Also looks like an AT front guard and brackets - looks like fun though

Thanks.

Yes, I seem to have a habit of buying "bitsas"!

Still, it was relatively cheap, runs and wasn't sold as being all original.

CMSNL parts list suggests that the CT1C used the same fender and brackets as the AT model bikes.

I thought (I could be wrong though) that the CT1 always used the 214 guard and stays. Attachment shows it does for the CT1A. Not shown for CT1B and CT1C. Interesting point(or useless trivia to many) is that the AT1mx uses the 214 guard and stay for both early models before it goes to the alloy high guard. I have attached a photo of a AT1mx that shows the 214 guard (same as CT1A) and stays  - the front stay is less curved and longer and also the guard sticks out less in front of the front stay bracket mount. Maybe someone with more knowledge will clear this up.

You buy bitsas - I buy bitsamissing

Sorry - have attached the image I was looking for as it shows both the 248 and 214 guards and stays on the AT1 and AT1mx. Also took a screenshot of a CT1C brochure that shows the 214 guard and stays.

I went through all this when I was trying to work out what should be on my Aus CT1C.

Just to throw a curve ball the last image is a CT1B that has the 248 guard and stays - magazine shot of a new bike?
