Serial number question was created by SlowPoke
Hello gents. Been a long time but I may be back. I have a line on an early dt-1. Matching serial numbers verified with photos of engine and frame. #dt1f-38350. Can anyone shed some light on this? I can’t seem to find a match in the vin guide on this site. Thanks in advance!

1971 DT1E. Don't let the DT1F on the motor and frame throw you. Don't why Yamaha did this. Your bike falls in the last 1/3 of the model run that year.

Thanks. Turns out the seller wants way too much for a very rough bike. Not worth it.

Hey, thanks Mark. It’s been a while for sure. There have been some major changes over the last few years. All of my bikes are gone except my 2018 Royal Enfield Interceptor. I found lately I’m in the need of a project to piddle away my retirement so I’m on the prowl for a first gen DT1. (Square swingarm). When this seller contacted me I thought I had found one but it turns out it was a severely thrashed 1971 with no electrics, gauges, wrong tail light, welded/modified exhaust, no oil system and fried points/condenser. He told me he knew he had a rare bike and he was asking $3,000.00 for it. Yikes. He was a really nice guy though. I don’t think he was trying to be a fortune hunter. He was just wildly unrealistic in his expectations. My goal is to eventually get down to Endurofest at least once before I kick the bucket. Pray for me……….LOL!
