shift shaft shim was created by tvrc18

So I got a new shift shaft for my 68 DT1 and the parts book shows a shim on the end on the right side going up against the last c clip. When I put the clutch cover on it made the shifter bind. I took the clutch  cover off and removed the shim and it shifts fine. Is that shim not needed on the 68 or maybe the one I have is to thick, there was not one on the shaft when I took it apart but noticed the parts book showed one. This shaft has the splines on both ends.

Has someone added a shim the other side of the arm. Doubt the same shim would fit over the spline but maybe they found one to fit "under the bench" or from the idler gear. They run one i guess so the circlip isn't running on the alloy of the case. Without the shim do you have normal end play--like just a little bit.

Yea I ordered number 13 from Speed and Sport. After the part number they give a size. Everything matches but the thickness. Says .2 and mine is 1,0. All the other measurements are correct but the thickness. None on Ebay so I guess I am out of luck unless I could find a way to machine this one down or find something else to work. It seems to shift fine and not much play but worry about knocking that c clip off.

That's a huge difference in thickness.  No wonder it binds.

McMaster-Carr has shims.

I'm sure it'll survive minus the washer but tapping the gear lever on can blow it off even with a washer. Probably a spacer between the two circlips would spread the load & stop that possibility happening.

McMaster Carr has almost the exact size. Sure it will work fine.
