Advice needed...
I am about to start my adventure in restoring a DT1 1968 250 that was purchased nearly 2 years ago.
I want it to be as stock as possible so before I start I just need to settle a couple of questions, 1 at a time.
I have a single vertical plug on my cylinder head - is this correct? I've been told this is a Yamaha performance head.
I have been fortunate enough to have access to a fully restored slightly younger model (by VIN number) and it has a single plug head but at 45 deg to the right hand side.
I have been under the impression that the stock standard is 2 plug, 1 vertical and the other at 45 deg. Which is correct??
Also if any members have front fender stays and fender brackets for this model (fender not required) I would be very interested - any condition.
Thanks in advance - Simon (68DT250 )

The original cylinder head for a ‘68 DT1 has a single spark plug hole at a 45 degree angle (see attached photos). I have several parts guides for ‘68’s and have seen no evidence of a change to the two hole cylinder head until ‘69. It’s great that you have a GYT kit cylinder head as it’s quite rare and as a factory accessory I believe most would have no issue keeping it on a restored bike. Would love to see more photos...

Normally 45 degrees to the left not the right for the plug.. I wonder if you have a GYT cylinder as well, which originally is a chrome bore. Or could be the DT1MX which can be rebored. If it 'is' a go fast cylinder it'll 'go slow' with a low compression head.

Thanks for that information, this is getting easier by the minute (not).I have attached a couple more pics. This is as is, I haven't started the project yet except order a new rear hub, as mine has a crack in the flange. except order a new rear hub, as mine has a crack in the flange. Do you want to sell that cylinder head, it looks very desirable

Remarkably complete. Look at mine in a thread somewhere and you will see just how far ahead of the game you are. Maybe jusy fix what needs fixin' and run it?!

Like you i have just started restoring my ‘68 which is a late model VIN DT1-13xxx which has all of the mid year updates. Mine came with a 2 plug head and I will be using the NOS head for the restoration. Your bike is a great start as it is quite complete. I am curious if the frame # matches the engine as early VIN ‘68’s used a metal strap to mount the gas tank and yours looks to have the updated puck mounted tank. From what I can see in your pics it also looks like a previous owner has updated the carburetor to a later model as all ‘68’s have a cap with the cable plus an idle adjustment screw and rubber boot. Very few are 100% correct as they 50+ years old. It will take some time but if you keep looking you’ll find what you need.
Here’s how an pre 13xxx VIN ‘68 tank should mount.

Hi, Yes the frame and engine are matching numbers, It has had the puck mod as per the bulletin 233 but without the frame change and the puck receivers are welded onto the frame as per previous pictures. Thanks for pointing out the carby change.
