I will add that by 1975, no motorcycle could be imported/sold new in the USA without "standardized controls" which included the left-side shifter... even off-road bikes... so pretty much the whole world changed.

hi - yamaha used to sell a right hand shift kit (basically a left hand side brake assembly) ... i have one of these kits on one of my bikes. i've also converted yet another to right hand shift for a bike originally using right hand shifting ... tt and flat track racers used to prefer this type of set up. i use it because i still ride BSA's and triumphs ... take a look
