XT125X Throttle Cable Routing. was created by Paulebble

Hi everyone, I am a new member and i would like to thank you for letting me join your site.
my son has recently bought a 2011 XT125X. He is not an experienced rider and the first time he took it out and turned right the throttle fully opened and he shot across the road? He was not hurt thankfully, but when i had a look the throttle cable must be routed incorrectly as when its standing at idle and you turn the handlebars right the throttle does fully open. I have tried to reroute the cable but cannot get it to not go full throttle? I was hoping someone on here might be able to post me a diagram of the correct cable routing please? Many thanks in advance

Your best bet is to try and find a genuine Yamaha Service Manual for your model. As well as having the usual important service data and procedures in it, there should also be a complete cable and wiring routing diagram, as well as a wiring diagram.

Thanks for the quick reply. I did get a Haynes manual but all that says is when replacing the throttle cable to tie a piece of string to the old cable and use the string to pull the new cable through. But as the old cable is routed wrong that would not work.
I’ll see if I can find a genuine Yamaha service manual as you suggested.

It might pay to check that your cable is the correct cable for your bike .
The original cable would have been routed correctly , but if it has been replaced , possibly with a shorter cable ,
then re routeing still won't solve your problem . Yamaha usually print the part number on the sheathing .
You can check the number against a Partzilla listing , to ascertain if it is correct .

Without reading all just yet. Generaly speaking for me i'd run the cable up the right side above the front tank mount then out past the right side of the tacho cable [if tacho is on the right--speedo left etc]. Then around to the throttle control. Shortest route with good flowing curves. Lucky son came out of it ok but that'll be a story he can tell his mates for sure.

Tell your son, too, that that sort of thing happens to all of us. I'm 71, and I did the same thing with a CT-2 just a year or two ago! Threw the key left ASAP.
