Gear selector shaft was created by Catpie

My XT250 has a keyway on the gear selector shaft instead of splines , it works great but I am just curious as all the manual and parts fiche etc show splines . Has anyone else seen this ?

Never seen a gear selector shaft on a jap bike with a keyed joint. Very odd.

BTW. The groove in the shaft is the key seat. The corresponding groove in the lever is the key way.

You are welcome.  It matters not, everyone knew what you meant and the term key way is often used interchangeably these days.

It only really matters to me when I walk into the machine shop at work with a shaft and ask for the keyway repairing....

Man those guys can be cruel....
