Yamaha YL1 Twin Jet was created by djetmb

Any fellow Twin Jet owners out there? I've recently acquired a really nice, well preserved 1966 model in factory stock condition.
I've owned several of these bikes, including a YL1-E with electric start. The E had 12V electrics. The others were 6V.
Mine, however, has 12V electrics and kick start only.
12V generator and regulator.
It is a Canadian spec bike but it should be 6V.
Has anyone else seen this before?
I have a CT2 as well.
Thanks.

My manuals say the 1966 YL1 had a 12v generator...

1967 YL1E had a 12v generator-starter.

Back in those good old day--when i assembled those models 'New' the 6 volt alternator model was a 4 speed rocket, even had a bit of torque.
But the later one which the NZ imported might've sourced from a different market--were a slug with less torque plus had 5 speed & generator 12 volt but not electric start by moemory.
We had a pretty good looking girl that had one but think i was spending nore time thinking about what buttons to push on her than looking for the electric start button. [did i say that--must've].

Yes, there was a 6v model with an alternator, not a generator... pretty sure it was battery ignition?

I don't know what years those were?  But like I said, the manual I have says the 1966 had a 12v generator (kick start only) and the 1967 had a 12v generator-starter (kick and electric start)

OK. Thanks MarkT for clearing this up. It was a pleasant surprise to have 12V electrics.

It has the early tiny signal lights which function perfectly along with everything else.
