Absolutely amazing what they can do nowadays on those bikes, when I was younger and we could get 10-15 feet of air on our YZ’s I thought we were daredevil’s but never in my wildest dreams did I ever think of letting go of my death grip of the handlebars, we would get some air and kick one leg out a bit and thought we were cool.

Me and a neighbor were saying the same. Evel would jump his heavy Harley and most times cash land, breaking bones. Just straight jumps, with no tricks. Still, he was THE pioneer, and was going for distance. The landing ramp is actually an airbag, stiff enough to ride on. When they do arena shows they use a much higher ramp. This was a scaled down setup for use on the beach. They used two strokes and four strokes. In the morning we had a strong sidewind and they did a short show. No riders did tricks letting go of the handlebars.

Several riders at the 20 second mark of the first video are taking at least one hand off the the handlebars, I have seen plenty of riders at other venues take both hands off the handlebars and grab on to the seat and then grab the handlebars back.

Yes, they were still being a bit cautious this afternoon with a slight side wind. On Saturday they were taking their hands completely off the handlebars and grabbing the seat or rear fender. Even letting go momentarily. I think they call that the Superman? I had some videos of that but deleted them because they ended up being very out of focus.

They have been doing those maneuvers for over 20 years. Travis Pastrana did first double back flip in 2006.

I'm aware they've been doing that for a couple decades. Travis Pastrana is going to ride at the Nitro Circus event in Anaheim near the end of August, and they say it'll probably be his last public event.
